Our February flew by so fast, I forgot about until we were almost a week into the month of March. It seemed to me that I hadn’t done much in February other than hang around the RV Resort golfing, swimming and reading. When I actually looked back at some of my posts, I realized we’d done a heck of a lot more!
Paulette and I managed to squeeze in at least a few hikes last month including one great hike along the Gabby Hayes Trail and we made it all he way to the top! It looks like our hiking days may be over for this season though as there is some genuine concern about snakes – and, I mean rattlesnakes. It’s been so hot here recently that these critters have been spotted in the desert and we have no desire to meet one of these out on a trail.
Another first for me was going to the Desert Hills Premium Outlet Mall in nearby Cabazon. I’m not a big shopper by any means but I did manage to get a great deal on a golf jacket and a few shirts at the Izod store. Come to think of it, I’ll have to go shopping soon as I need to pick up a ‘new outfit’ to attend our daughter Maggie’s Call to the Bar Ceremony in Vancouver while we’re on our way home! I’m not really looking forward to going shopping for new clothes!!
Golfing was good for most of February, but yesterday, I played in the afternoon and I probably shot my worst round in at least a couple of weeks. I started off o.k. on the 1st hole and everything seemed normal but after that it was a real struggle as I hit one shot over the trees onto the road but luckily for me it didn’t hit any vehicles driving down the road. Then, for good measure, I hit another drive over the fence into the desert. It just wasn’t my day. What was wrong? I have absolutely no idea!
As usual, we did manage to eat well again last month. Our little haunt down the road, “All-Star Burgers”, did a booming business off of us and a few of our friends here at the park. Back at the ranch, we had a few nice BBQ’s and had our favourite ‘Chef Joe’ (aka Trader Joe) help us with a few gourmet meals like Chicken Marcella.
The 2 Saturday morning Pancake Breakfasts here at the Sands are always a great way to start the weekend. Last month, the owners here also held their annual Customer Appreciation Day with a free lunch for all residents. Any time free food is offered, it seems you can count on practically every RV’er to show up. Why is that? Are we just always hungry or really cheap?
As far as March goes, we have almost 3 weeks left before we have to start our trek north and so far March is off to a great start. It looks like we’re going to have lots of really great memories to take home with us when we do leave.
For some reason, I didn’t get a chance to read as many blogs as usual yesterday. I’ll probably get up extra early Tuesday and try and catch up with as many of you as I can – at least I sure hope so!
Have a great Tuesday, and thanks again for visiting!

Snakes are a real hazard on the trail especially the poisonous ones. We've run into a couple rattlesnakes and a copperhead. Definitely don't recommend it.
ReplyDeleteYou guys are having a really great winter. Enjoy the rest of March.
Plus you can add the good weather you have been Blessed with, Not so here in MO.Hope you have as much fun for your remaining time. Be safe out there. Sam & Donna..

We're cheap! At least some of the time...helps save in other areas like fuel!
ReplyDeleteSince you didn't share with us your favorite Feb. event, I think I can guess which one it is...Outlet Mall wins by a mile....hehe

Enjoying your last three weeks they well go by fast!
ReplyDeleteThese winter treks of yours sure seem to fly by.
ReplyDeleteNothing wrong with being cheap -- sometimes. Just gives Paulette more money to spend at garage sales:) I think time definitely flies faster when you're having fun!
ReplyDeleteLooking back you and Paulette did have a busy month. And the way March is starting you might not get any rest till you get home. But it sure makes for a great winter down here. Have a Great Day!
ReplyDeleteA great February for you guys...no snow!! Yep, those snakes are stirring here in Texas, too...Den has taken me on a few trails "geocaching"...but since I don't have any leather boots with me, I will not be going off trail anymore:-/
ReplyDeleteWhat a great time you had in the sunshine. Perfect weather almost everyday! No rain, no wind, no snow! Hope your golf game is sizzling! Enjoy the remainder of your stay there.
ReplyDeleteSounds like a great month especially with all the laid back sitting around the RV resort. Going places and seeing things is fun but its also nice to sit back and do nothing at all. :)
ReplyDeleteI'm really looking out for snakes, too. Katie is always interested in sticking her nose into the little bushes around Quartzsite, and I worry about snakes hiding there.
ReplyDeleteYou guys had a perfect mix of activities in February - heck, you have a perfect mix every month. You'll be ready for regular yard work when you get home, after all this golf and relaxation! :)
Nice recap of your February in Desert Hot Springs.
ReplyDeleteGolf is such that when you believe you have a pretty good game going, it presents days where it bites you back and you feel like you've never played before.
To shop for clothing to attend your daughter's acceptance to the bar is a really worthy sacrifice! Congratulations, by the way.
Great idea to summarize your month. Hope you don't mind if I steal it from you. I would borrow but I don't want to have to give it back. :-)
ReplyDeleteAs for hungry or cheap?? BOTH!
