We woke up Tuesday to noticeably cooler temperatures than we’ve had for quite some time plus the wind was blowing just hard enough to make it seem even colder. I took Molly and Rylie to the dog park and by the time I got back I was just about freezing. It was quite easy to immediately rule out golf, swimming and even, perhaps, sitting outside reading. Luckily for me, Paulette had another idea.
Once over the Banning Pass and into Riverside County – it was pretty gloomy![]()
Paulette had a special request from her good friend Claire back home in Victoria for some wool for quilting. The place to get that I’m told is at The Wool Lady which just happens to be in Temecula – one of Paulette’s all-time favourite towns as it’s also home to the Quilter’s Coop – another big favourite. So, around 10am, leaving the Sands RV Resort behind we headed west on I-10 looking for the junction with I-215 to take us south to Temecula.
Old Town Temecula was as nice and as interesting as ever![]()
The skies were clear blue leaving Palm Springs but as we drove up over the Banning Pass and then down into Riverside County we were in gloomy weather with low clouds and were shocked to see snow not too far off the freeway. It must have gotten a lot colder overnight than what we had down in the desert and with the clouds stacked up against the west side of Mt. Jacinto they had a bit of snow.
Here’s a place I’d never found in all our previous visits![]()
It wasn’t too bad when we got to Temecula. We found a parking spot on Old Front St. and Paulette said she’d be about an hour in both shops. With that, I took Molly and Rylie and went for a long walk up one side of Old Front St. and down the other. Even though I’ve been to Old Town Temecula several times now, I still enjoy walking along the old timber sidewalks and looking in all the store windows. It’s an interesting place with a lot of unique stores.
Paulette was finished right on time and we were soon back on the freeway headed for Palm Springs. First though, we were starving but we soon found an In ‘n Out Burgers with easy access from the I-215. I had the ‘double-cheese burger’ and it was pretty darned good. We even got a hamburger patty for Molly and Rylie to share so they too gave “2 paws up” for In ‘n Out Burgers.
Heading back into Palm Springs it was all clear, blue skies ahead!![]()
Driving back east on I-10, we were still encased in a heavy cloud cover. Looking ahead though, up over Mt. Jacinto it looked like the skies just might be clear. Sure enough, just as we reached the top of Banning Pass and 'could see the desert down below, all was clear with bright blue skies. It’s amazing how the Mt. Jacinto range manages to block the clouds from spilling down over the desert.
Solar farms in the desert provide power as well as the wind turbines![]()
We were back at our site by mid-afternoon – just in time to take the muttzo’s for a long walk around the park. But, that was about it for our day. It looks like the weather is going to get back to normal here pretty quick with temperature s up into the high 80’s forecast by the end of this week. After just one day of cool weather, I’m already looking forward to another heat wave!
Have a great Wednesday, and thanks again for visiting!

Looks like you had a good day in Temecula. I'll bet the mutso's were happy with their special treat at In & Out Burger.Once in awhile is okay, but Rigg's would get spoiled fast if I did that with him. Be safe out there.Sam & Donna....
ReplyDeleteI'll say it again, you are the best quilter's husband!
ReplyDeleteTemecula almost always has something interesting to see, with all the shops and wineries nearby. We like heading over there in May and June as they have a you pick fresh Blueberry farm also. Sounded like a great day for Molly and Rylie to.
ReplyDeleteOne of the first things we are going to do when we get out that way is to go to In and Out. We have heard and read so much about this place that we must try it!
ReplyDeleteNot sure how we missed Temecula when we were out there a couple of years ago. On our list for this stop...we hope. ~wheresweaver
Temecula looks like a town I would enjoy. :)
ReplyDeleteHow come you didn't stop in at HobbyTown over in Temecula and check out all the neat airplane stuff they got there???
ReplyDeleteWe love the Desert Hot Springs area and exploring various places. Its nice to take advantage of cooler days to do a bit of a day trip.

ReplyDeleteYour still making us jealious with even your colder weather back here in Southern Ontario.
ReplyDeleteBe Safe and Enjoy!
It's about time.
Looks like you made the best of the "cold snap":)
ReplyDeleteWhenever our Lab got people food, she got diarrhea...not good. Apparently you dogs don't have that problem, eh? In Alaska they called that early fall snow in the mountains "anticipation precipitation"...of the Winter to come...
ReplyDeleteThat's the beauty of mobility. When you're living in a motorhome , you gain a new sense of adventure and freedom. It must be refreshing to know that you can pick up and move on when factors like the weather aren't cooperating.
ReplyDeleteI have a curiosity question. How do you pronounce Temecula? Is it Temi-qu-la or Te-mec-u-la or something else?
ReplyDeleteFor JC, we always pronounced it Tem ec u la...... But for a fellow from Kansas, I could be wrong.... Rick took us there one day so the wives could do the quilters coop thing and I think we all called it that.
ReplyDeleteI always enjoy a cooler day when the temps have been in the 80's. Seems like you spent your cooler day having a great time. Better than shoveling snow like some folks are still doing.
ReplyDeleteIt's nice to be able to change things up when the weather changes. To take a drive to Temecula - or other favoured destination - is a nice thing to do on an inclement weather day.
ReplyDeleteRick, you didn't have a double cheeseburger, it was a double-double! Did you get the fries with it. We always order the fries well down, they're a crisper. But Mickeyd's still has the best fries. There's a whole insiders guide to In & Out on their website. Next time you're in Temecula, check out the new Hobby Lobby. Great chain based in the South just now getting to CA.
