Can-Am Tournament And Another Scorcher

One of the big annual events took place here yesterday at the Sands RV Resort.  It was the Can-Am Golf Tournament.  As you might expect this tournament pits American Men and Women golfers against their Canadian counterparts.  Anyone who is a member of either the Men’s or Women’s Golf Club here can sign-up and participate.  The golf course was taken over for the tournament right up to early afternoon and then there was a big luncheon afterwards.

Not being a member of the Men’s Club ($40), I wasn’t eligible to sign up for this tournament.  That fact was immaterial as I wouldn’t have played in it anyway as I prefer to just go and play golf when I feel like it, not when It’s scheduled.  That just reminds me too much of work and meetings, I guess.  Other folks might call it unsocial but that’s o.k. – I am going to the Pancake Breakfast Saturday morning!!

We had another hot one here yesterday.  It wasn’t quite as hot as the temperature only reached 85F.  With absolutely no wind, not even a breeze, it sure seemed a lot warmer than that.  It was another stay in the park day for me.  Paulette and a few of her friends went ‘thrift store shopping’ leaving at 10am and returning at 4pm.  I don’t know how they survived that ordeal as some of those stores must have been boiling hot.

All Paulette got for all of her shopping was a big bag of ugly looking clothes – old jackets, a tartan skirt and some baggy pants.  I should have know that she was never going to wear any of this stuff as it was all for quilting projects.

This $5 all wool jacket will be part of a quilt one dayIMG_2070

Paulette was thrilled as she said these were pure wool and she got the jacket for $5 and the tartan skirt for just $3.  Once it’s all cut up for quilting projects, I’m told it will be a saving of over $50.  Personally, I’d have gone to a store and just bought the wool for retail prices, but what do I know?

Same goes for this $5 tartan skirtIMG_2073

While Paulette was off shopping, it was a pool day for me.  I rode our bike up to the pool for a few swims and then came back to our rig, let Molly and Rylie out, and just sat in the shade and continued to read my current book The Fall of Giants by Ken Follett – it’s a great read!

Have a great Saturday, and thanks again for visiting!

  1. Are you two planning to purchase a small trailer to tow back home with all Paulette's purchases? She really does get that great buys. ~wheresweaver

  3. She's a great shopper, that Paulette! A gal after my own heart...bet she's got fabric stashed everywhere. I could use a trailer myself for all my craft stuff!

  10. You and Paulette have worked out good arrangements. Shopping for her, pool for you.

  11. It was 87 here Thursday, but then the bottom dropped out and today is 54...big change!! By the looks of the materials Paulette chooses for her quilts..they all have to be dry cleaned, right?..What a bunch of neat fabrics involved!

  12. You could always pretend you are a Scotsman and put that plaid to good use! Oh yeah, Rick in a kilt...I'll have to suggest that one to Paulette. I'm laughing just imagining it!

  13. Have had trouble getting online these past few days. Not sure why!

Daughters are busy! Travel is great! now a grand daughter is off to High Level? Not that bad a place. It is a small town but not nearly as remote as one would think. I'm sure it will be a good experience.

Agree with the nice heat of late. Sure is nice to enjoy it here in Yuma as you have been enjoying it in Desert Hot Springs.

Nice clothing Paulette found to reincarnate into new quilts.

  15. Loved that book, can't wait for the next in the series. Barnes & Noble had no info on when it would be out. Sometimes those darn authors just can't write fast enough!!
