A Few Reasons For Looking Forward To Thursday

Thursday can’t come soon enough for me for a number of reasons.  First and foremost is that’s when the temperatures here on southern Vancouver Island are expected to return to normal.  With a forecast high of 46F and a low of 41F, we will be back in our normal winter weather pattern.  It was cold again yesterday but, thankfully, we didn’t get any more snow.

Thursday is also the day we are planning on heading down to the Oceanside RV Resort, just outside of Victoria, for a 3 night stay.  It was way back on October 15th that we brought our new 2011 Big Country 5’er home and since then, because of the crazy business of my having to get an upgraded Driver’s License, we’ve only been out in it one time and that was just for a short 2 night stay in Parksville.  The rig has been getting a good workout in our driveway, but it’s not the same as actually living and sleeping in it to check things out.

Another reason for looking forward to Thursday is that Paulette will be hosting her Sorority’s bi-weekly meeting here in our house this Wednesday evening.  Over 20 ladies will be here for close to 3 hours and that means me and the muttzo’s will be banished to an upstairs room. That’s not so bad, but what is bad is the continuous cleaning of the house in preparation for this event! Every time I put anything down on a coffee table, the island in the kitchen or anywhere else, it’s gone, put away somewhere!!  Drives me crazy!!

Best part of the US Thanksgiving Holiday for me?  NFL games on TV!Lions_Thanksgiving

Thursday is also Thanksgiving Day for all of our friends in the United States.  That doesn’t mean a big Turkey Dinner and celebration with family and friends for us as we have already had our Thanksgiving Day holiday here in Canada.  It’s the NFL games that I’m looking forward to!  Hopefully, we’ll be at the Oceanside RV Resort, so I’m planning on sitting back in my Lazy-Boy, putting the fireplace on and watching a few games.  By the way, we do have 2 TV’s in our 5’er!!

We’re hoping to get away and spend a few nights in our new 5’er later this weekliving room

Having gone a long way towards wishing my week away, I’d better turn to what I did yesterday.  That’s easy – not much!  Paulette was supposed to go to her Quilting Club but decided against it for fear it might snow.  I offered to drive her in and pick her up after, but she opted for staying home instead.  Instead, she sent me out into the cold with a grocery shopping list!

Now, I have a ‘techie’ question for my friend Bayfield Al.  You read that right – a ‘techie’ question!  It’s to do with photography though as I consider Al to be an expert on this topic.  In a comment left on my post yesterday, Al said:  “Nice red barn photo & you composed it well by keeping the barn away from dead center.”  Al, you have mentioned this ‘keeping away from dead center’ before and I’m just curious about the reason for doing that?  I’m posing the question here because I’m sure others might be wondering the same thing.

Al says this pic is composed well because the red barn is off-center IMG_1380

While I’d like to take credit for a ‘well-composed’ photo, the truth is, it was an accident.  I wasn’t really thinking about the barn so much as I was just trying to get as much of the snow covered fields in the photo as I could.  Hopefully, Al will cover this topic in one of his upcoming blogs.

Have a great Tuesday, and thanks again for visiting!

Rick - looks like you have a lot to look forward to in the next few days. Hope the sorority night goes well and you can get back to leaving your coffee cup whereever...

And hope you have a great time taking out the RV ... and that there is no snow!

Looking forward to what Al has to say too

That is a gorgeous photo of the red barn. I'm sure Al will have the answer, but my simple version is that photos just look better with the main image off center. It draws your eye from off the center and you see the entire photo better....I think.

Your new living room with Lazy Boy looks so beautiful and comfy. Lazy Rick is sure going to enjoy spending TV time there soon.

I too like the barn a little off center but i especially like that old barbed wire fence in the foreground--Glad to see you are heading south -- will you be anywhere close to Texas in january??

Your Thursday plans sound great (except for the football part).

As far as keeping the house clean..welcome to my world. Well at least when we know we're having a showing. The other times it's business as usual!

Yep, that cleaning frenzy stuff would have drove me half crazy as well. Your question in the post about the red barn is a valid one & yes, I will be happy to explain about 'composition & the rule of thirds' in an upcoming blog shortly. Always happy to give my opinion on things related to photography. I may have difficulty in understanding electronic techie stuff but I do have an idea how to snap a picture or two:))

Hi Rick. I'm not Al, but here is a link that explains the "rule of thirds" in photography.

You can google for plenty of other sites/blogs that talk about it and give examples.

Beautiful photo!

20 gals in full party mode, I think I might abandon the upstairs for the fifth wheel. :)

hate to say it Rick..but I kind of knew what Al was talking about!..off center and dividing the photo in thirds!..ha..heard of that before!..makes the picture look better than something straight on and in the center!..not bad for a 'dumb blonde blogger!'..by the way I stole your 'perfect barn photo'..can you say screen saver!!??

Yup, the two thirds rule is a good one to follow, unless you find a picture that has to be otherwise. Like a lot of "rules" in life, it isn't a hard and fast rule, but a good guideline, just as is filling up your screen with the subject. Often, though. the main subject is best viewed relative to something else. It's the photographer's eye that has to make the choice.

Wow, is that a fireplace in your living room?

Good thing it looks like it will warm up - our son called us last night from Victoria. We also hope to be there perhaps by next weekend.

Yes they taught us the rule of thirds back when I took Photography in a college class, but a lot of composition, just comes down to your eyes and what is pleasing to you at the time you press the shutter.
But unfortunately for me, the picture really looks like it is darned cold up there right now, and you need to load that 5ver on the ferry and get the he!! out of town!
I know the galls need to do the Holidays at home, and that's the reason we are trapped here in KC. Maybe I just need to learn to Fly Home for a few days and return to the warm again.

Never heard of the Rule of two thirds so will be interested to hear what Al has to say.

Enjoy your few days in the 5er.

My brother in law lives in Parksville. My husband went to high school there. Evidently it has changed much over the previous decade. Have fun in the snow!

As a fulltimer, I sort of miss those 'special' times of staying in the fiver. It always felt like we were in some exotic, different life. Now it is the same old, same old. Not that I am complaining.

You will surely enjoy every moment this weekend. You do have a beautiful rig.

JUST GREAT!..SO, NOW I GOTTA WORRY ABOUT "RULES" WHEN I TAKE A PHOTO?? YOU GUYS KNOW HOW MUCH I LOVE RULES..NOT!..I TRY TO BREAK AS MANY AS POSSIBLE...AND USUALLY SUCCEED. HAVE TO ADMIT...REALLY NEAT PHOTO, RICK!

The new 5er is nice!! You will have to share more pictures of it with us.

We are going to the RV show in Tampa Florida in January and will be taking a look at the new ones then (just browsing, not ready for a new one yet). We are hoping to find our satellite dish for our 5er while we are there (the small automatic one that sits on top of the 5er).

And, you can have the snow!! Makes me shiver just to see it in pictures!!

Boy those photos of the living room in the 5er are amazing, Rick! I know what fun it will be for Paulette to have her friends over. Nice.
